Patricia Alma
Shuart
Aug 3, 1936 — Oct 7, 2026
Patricia Alma (Costello) Shuart, age 90, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family. Born on August 3, 1936 in Bad Axe, MI to Keren and Lucille Costello, she was a woman of immense warmth, resilience, and devotion to those she loved. On Oct. 8, 1958, she married Leon “Pete” Shuart. They celebrated 62 years of marriage together. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, who preceded her in death in 2020.
A woman of faith, Patricia was a longtime, faithful member of St. Felix Catholic Church in Pinnebog, MI. Her Sundays were anchored in worship, and her life was a reflection of her deep beliefs—filled with grace, charity, and a welcoming spirit for everyone she met. Outside of her devotion to her family, Patricia and Pete were proud members of AA for over 50 years, offering strength, fellowship, and inspiration to many within her community. At home, she created a sanctuary of warmth and hospitality. She possessed a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature, often found sitting by her favorite window with a cup of hot tea or a Pepsi, joyfully bird-watching and identifying the frequent visitors to her backyard feeders. She was also an enthusiastic player of games. Whether she was playing a lively card game or dominoes at the kitchen table with family or scanning her cards on a competitive bingo night with friends. Patricia had a passion for the flashing lights of the casino, the suspense of a fresh scratch-off ticket, and the weekly hope of the lottery drawing. She never met a slot machine she didn’t want to spin or a lucky penny she didn’t use to reveal a potential winner. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she has finally hit the ultimate Powerball in the sky.
Her family was her proudest achievement and greatest joy. She is survived by her 5 children, Peter (Vanassa) of Arizona, Paula (Robert) Jackson, Patrick Shuart and Pamela Emmendorfer, all of Flint, and Phillip Shuart of Bad Axe, and cherished family members Maria Garcia Kliewer of Davison, Will Hemingway of Flint, Charles Wilson of Burt, and John Emmendorfer of Tawas; her 10 grandchildren Susan (Adam) Fisher, Andrea Mata, Andrew (Melissa) Wilson, Ashley Shuart, Katy (Adam) Belson, Brittany Emmendorfer, Tessa (Chris) Pullen, Brandon (Ashley) Shuart, Amanda (Tully) Cocco, Tyler (Madeleine) Emmendorfer; Robert (Mallory) Jackson; her 17 great-grandchildren, Corbin (Sydney) Fisher and Lucas Fisher, Caleb, Aiden, Annabelle and Liam Wilson, Audriaunna and Gwyneth Belson, Avery, Carter and Cameron Pullen, Olivia, Everly and River Cocco, Evelyn and Amelia Shuart, and Leon Emmendorfer and his brother due in December and 1 great-great-grandchild Steven Fisher, and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a wide circle of cherished friends who became like family over the years.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents Keren and Lucille Costello, husband Leon “Pete” Shuart, siblings; Dorothy Bronson, Mary Beaver, Nancy Osentoski, Dennis Costello, Keren Joseph Costello, James Costello and niece, Sherry Osentoski, nephew, Michael Beaver and grandson in law, John Mata.
A Mass of Christian burial for Patricia will be held on Tuesday October 13, 2026, 11:30am at St. Hubert Parish/Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Bad Axe with Fr. Yesu officiating. Visitation will be 10:30 am to 11:30 am with a rosary service at St. Hubert Parish/Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow service at St. Felix Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials in Patricia’s name may be made to AA and the Salvation Army.
