Michael W. Cowles , 85 years old of Bad Axe, passed away peacefully May 6, 2023 while on Hospice care at Marlette Regional Hospital.

Michael was born April 18, 1938 to the late Thomas E. and Annie (Pletch) Cowles in Detroit, Michigan. He served in the United States Air Force for 4 years and was stationed in Japan for two of those years.

Upon returning home, he married Kathy (Clark) on September 1, 1962 and they celebrated 60 years of marriage in September.

Mike loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren who referred to him lovingly as "Pa Mike". Mike was a coach for the Bad Axe tennis team for 30 plus years and loved to teach and encourage all of his team players. He enjoyed boating and fishing with his life-long buddy "Dode" and also enjoyed hunting. He could be found every morning at the Peppermill Restaurant having coffee with the coffee group. Michael was also a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star.

Michael is survived by his wife Kathy, and daughter Michelle (Jim) Cowles Hughes; grandchildren Whit, Preston, Annika; niece and nephews, and brother-in-law James Johnson. He was preceded in death by his sister Sally Johnson.

The funeral service for Michael will be held on Thursday May 11, 2023 at the MacAlpine Funeral Home Mac Chapel in Bad Axe, 11:00 AM with Pastor Michael Beeler officiating.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 10, 2023 from 2:00-8:00, with a Masonic Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Thursday at the Mac Chapel.

Burial will follow at Colfax Township Cemetery.
