Bad Axe

Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Melvin Lawrence Drake, who departed this life on November 3, 2026, at the age of 83 in Bad Axe, Michigan.

Born on January 10, 1943, in Bad Axe to Irvin and Beatrice Drake, Melvin grew up working on the family farm. He inherited the love of farming from his father who also taught him the skills and techniques he would carry throughout his life, and farming became deeply embedded in his DNA. He woke before the sun rose and often came home after dark—dirty and tired, but accomplished. In addition to tending the land, Melvin proudly served as the Lincoln Township supervisor for many years. Because he was often the only person on the ballot, he took a fair share of gentle ribbing from his family.

Melvin was humble, hardworking, and kind-hearted. He possessed a cheeky sense of humor and a priceless giggle that will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Melvin is survived by his spouse, Pam Fisher-Drake; his children, Renee Guigar (William), Melissa Miller (Corey), Jennifer Drake (Matthew), Joshua Drake (Kelly), granddaughter Alexiss Guigar, his loving and protective sister, June Tice (Mark), several nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and his stepchildren Chad Fisher (Tricia), and Mandi Patterson (Archie). He is also survived by devoted “son” Allen Maynard whose dedication and loyalty meant so much to Melvin.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Kay Drake; his parents, Irvin and Beatrice; and many loving aunts and uncles.

A Mass of Christian burial for Melvin Drake will take place Saturday November 7th at St. Hubert Parish/Sacred Heart with Father Yesu Mulakaleti officiating. Visitation will be Friday November 6th at MacAlpine Gage Chapel Kinde from 4pm to 8pm, with visitation at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 10:30 until time of service at 11:30 on Saturday November 7th.
