Obituary

Martha "Jean" Regina Czewski was born to Roy and Mary Gola Noble on October 4, 1937.  She was born in a farm house in Union Starr, Kentucky, where her family lived and worked.  Martha was the youngest of three children born in that family.   The sibling's names are Agnese Jewel Osentoski and Joseph Gerald Noble.   Mary Gola Noble worked as a maid and her father, Roy Noble worked as a farmhand.  They were quite happy till the father's unexpected death.  After that, the family moved in with their grandparents, Hubert Biddle and Mary Elizabeth Durbin-Biddle.  Martha's mother worked as a nurse in Elizabeth Town, Kentucky.  When Martha became of school age, she was sent to a Catholic Boarding School in Andyville, Kentucky till she was 14 years old.  She then went to another Catholic school in Larety, Kentucky.   Martha's mother was remarried to Vertis Andrew Sketo and the family once again moved to Painsville, Kentucky.  This is where the hard work came in.   On Martha's summer breaks from school, she would hoe in the Tabaco fields.  She would make and sell quilts in Hollywood, California for the movie sets.   That's how they made their money.

While Martha was in Catholic school, she took the address of an American service man in the Korean War from a girl that was sitting in front of her.   His name was Raymond Czewski from Ubly, Michigan.   After he did his tour in Korea, he came to find the little women that had been writing to him all that time.  Raymond fell head over heels in love with Martha.  Raymond told her if she didn't say yes to marrying him, that he was leaving and never coming back.  Well she said yes, and Martha started working really hard to get the money for her wedding dress.  Raymond and Martha were married on October 24, 1953.

Martha and Raymond were side by side in everything they did.  Weather it was racing or tractor pulling, or working, they were together.  Martha worked at Hamill Manufacturing for twenty years.  She made many friends while she worked there.   She also had two hobbies, she loved sewing and quilting.  She made many lovely quilts that she would sell or give away as presents.  Martha's sewing was second to none, she had a deal with Mill-End stores to sell one of her sweatshirts and she sold quite a lot of them.

After the wedding, the couple moved to Ubly, Michigan (Raymond's hometown) to settle down and start a family.  Raymond bought 2 acres of land and he built a one story house with three bedrooms (with his own two hands) for their growing family.

Martha passed away on December 14, 2017 at the age of 80 years old.   She is survived by her husband, Raymond  Czewski of Ubly; her six children: Raymond Czewski Jr., Barbra Charlene Ahrens,  Madonna Katherine Czewski, Timothy John Czewski,  Mary Anent Czewski and Eric Donald Czewski; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.  She is also survived by one sister, Agnes Jewel Osentoski of Ubly, Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and one brother, Joseph.

Martha was greatly beloved by the Ubly community and will be missed by friends and family alike.  The Czewski family would like to put out a special thanks to their daughter, Barb, and grandson, Matthew, "without them taking care of Martha and Raymond, this chapter in our family would be much harder and sadder. "

A private service was already held.   Spring burial will take place at St. John Cemetery in Ubly, Michigan.
