Marjorie
Mcphee
Nov 5, 1921 — Apr 30, 2018
Marjorie McPhee, 96, of Kinde, Michigan passed away at home Monday, April 30, 2018.
She was born November 5, 1921 at home in Chandler Twp., Michigan to the late George and Laura Shaw.
She is survived by her three children, eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild and her sister, Shirley Murray of Bad Axe and brother-in-law, Robert Champagne of Elkton.
Marjorie graduated from Elkton High School in 1940. While there she was the pitcher on the fast pitch softball team (never losing a game) and played basketball.
During WWII, she went to work at the U. S. Rubber plant near Belle Isle to make jeep tires for the war effort.
On Feb. 24, 1951, Marge married George McPhee. They had children…William (Sharon) McPhee of Kinde, Cathy (Dean) Tighe of Palmview, TX, Diane McPhee of Kinde, and Ellen (John) Choate of Richmond, VT. Grandchildren; Ian McPhee, Rory (Kelly) McPhee, Miranda Benden all in Michigan, Jesse Choate, Stephanie Choate and Alexa Bourbonnais, all in Vermont, Maryellen Tighe in New York and Currie Tighe in Washington; and great grandchild, Lily Belle Bourbonnais.
Marge and George operated McPhee Farms, a centennial farm. Her home was the hub of family gatherings. Marge was a passionate gardener, working in her flower beds well into her 90's, an accomplished cook, an avid quilter, and enjoyed playing games of all types with her family.
She was an active member of the Chandler Presbyterian Church and the Chandler Women's Guild. Marge was caretaker to many and not a public figure, preferring to serve quietly in the background.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, George; daughter, Ellen; sister, Irene Champagne and brother, George Jr.
Memorial services for Marjorie will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2018 at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe, MI with Rev. William O'Nan officiating. A gathering will take place from 12 noon until time of service. Per Marge's wishes, cremation has taken place.
