Obituary

Josephine Frances Korleski passed away peacefully at Meadow Lane Assisted Living under the care of hospice on January 9, 2021.  She was not directly affected by Covid-19, but it certainly indirectly impacted her quality of life, as she has spent the past year longing for her farm and her family.  Her soul may now be at peace.

Josephine was born on August 21, 1926 in Port Austin, MI to Edward and Frances (Jimkoski) Stockoski. She married Martin Korleski on November 13, 1943.  They were blessed with a family of three children: Eddie, Dennis, and Nancy.

Josephine and Martin lived in Kinde on a farm, where they raised their 3 children. She was employed by the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw for 40 years. She loved her flowerbeds and her vegetable gardens and was one of the best Polish cooks around.  She always had food on the table when someone came to visit, so one never left her house hungry. Her famous pierogi recipe, and the memories of learning how to make them, will be cherished by family for years to come.

She is survived by son, Edward (Susan) Korleski of Bayfield, WI and daughter, Nancy Sheward of Sterling Heights.  She is also survived by daughter in law, Patricia Korleski; sister in-law, Joanie Korleski, 3 grandchildren: Delores (Darryl) Alexander of Warren, Anna Soeiro of Santa Fe, NM and Ian (Gina) Korleski of Denver, CO; 3 great grandchildren: Jenna and Marissa Alexander and Rowan Soeiro.  She has several nieces and nephews who were all quite special to her.

Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Martin, her son, Dennis Korleski and son-in law, Cameron Sheward, and all 9 of her siblings:  Regina Fisher, Irvin Stockoski, Leonard Stockoski, Roman Stockoski, Christine Wolfe, Emma Yaroch, Helen Lapka, Mary Palmer, and Lillian Wills.

Josephine's family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the wonderful care she had at Meadow Lane Assisted Living since March 28, 2020 and to Season's Change Hospice.

Funeral arrangements will be for immediate family only.  There will be a mass and celebration of her life held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by MacAlpine Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Season's Change Hospice.
