Elma A. Smith age 87 of Elkton, Michigan passed away peacefully at home on Saturday February 5, 2022, surrounded by her family.

Elma was born on August 22, 1934 to the late James F. and Vera L. (Parker) Sherwood Sr., of Owendale, Michigan. Elma married the love of her life Henry F. Smith on January 7, 1956. They shared 55 wonderful years together before his passing on May 21, 2011. They were the most loving and giving parents that anyone could ever have. Elma was a wonderful grandma to her grandchildren and a blessing in their lives.

Elma is survived by her 4 children; Cindy (David) Ferris of Elkton, Linda Bucholtz of Bay Port, Robert (Karen) Smith of Kinde and Roy (Julie) Smith of South Lyon; 14 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren; sister in law Donna Sherwood of Bad Axe, and many nieces and nephews.

Elma was preceded in death by her husband Henry of 55 years, two daughters Laura Smith and Lois (John) Genis; her grandson Jason Smukala, son in law Terry Bucholtz, two brothers James Sherwood Jr. and infant Ernest Sherwood.

Thank you for giving me life and being the best mom ever. Thank you for always being there for me and for everything you have done for me in life. I cherish all the beautiful memories I have with you. I am so thankful that I was able to help take care of you during your journey to the end. R.I.P. Momma, I miss you so much. I love you forever mom, you live on in my heart forever~ your daughter Linda.

I am forever grateful that you were here with me for almost 10 years. I am thankful that we were able to take care of you and comfort you at home.  I will miss not hearing or seeing you everyday. I Love you so much and not hearing you say it to me, is the hardest. You were such a blessing in my life and you will always be with me and continue to be a blessing. Linda and I are so grateful that we were able to care for you. Love you always and forever~ Your daughter, Cindy.

Visitation for Elma will be on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 from 2-8 PM at the MacAlpine Gage Chapel in Kinde.  Funeral service for Elma will be held on Thursday, February 10 at 11:00 at the MacAlpine Gage Chapel. Pastor Mike Brubaker from the 1 ^st Baptist Church of Bad Axe, will be officiating, with burial following at the Caseville Township Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Scott Reiter, and A & D Hospice; with a very special thank you to their Mom's hospice nurse, Heather and also Mom's home health aide, Dana Hartman.

Memorials may be offered to the family discretionary fund in care of Cindy Ferris.
