Truman Cleveland, 94 years old of Farmington Hills, Michigan, passed away on Sunday March 26, 2023 at Henry Ford Hospital in West Bloomfield, Michigan. Truman also had a cottage in Broken Rocks, Port Austin, Michigan.

Truman married Shirley Smith of Bad Axe, at the United Methodist Church in Bad Axe on New Year's Eve in 1955. They were married for 63 years before she preceded him in death in August 2018. They had met while he was stationed at the Port Austin Air Force base, where he was stationed for 6 years.

"Cleve" was an avid golfer, and a founding member of the Bird Creek Golf Course in Port Austin.  He was a member of the Gun Club of Birmingham, an avid reader- reading a novel a week, and he and Shirley  had sailed the Great Lakes many times, docking their boat in Caseville, which was their home port. Truman was a teacher for many years at Northwestern High School in Detroit, and also a producer and director in charge of educational programing for channel 56.

Truman is survived by his son Eric (Judi) Eicher; daughters Mary Kelly (Paul) Zuby, Faye Elizabeth Cleveland; grandchildren Thea Zuby, Christopher (Courtney Tolar) Zuby, David (Mandee) Stivelman, Hannah (Scott Jornlin) Stivelman; great-grandson Eliot Stivelman and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Carole Lynne Cleveland, and brother Kenneth Cleveland.

A visitation for Truman will be held on Tuesday April 4, 2023 at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe, from 11:00-2:00. A graveside service will follow immediately after visitation at Colfax Township Cemetery.

Memorials may be offered to the Humane Society.
